My Asus Eee Pc Deeply Review 1/4

Two weeks ago, I was blessed to have a new laptop. I got the famous Asus Eee Pc in Galaxy Black. I bought it from Asianic at SM Southmall where I find all the staffs friendly. Gracie even bought them a food treat from Henlin for their snack. They ran out available stocks so we had to wait for the stock that will be coming in from their Festival Branch. Upon waiting for the laptop, my dear Gracie accompanied me in checking out some SDHC to spice up my laptop drive. We were able to purchase an 8GB SDHC for Php1600 ( $40 ). I was able to get a hand of the Asus 900 while waiting for the delivery. It has a noticeably larger form and screen. It also boasts a 1.3 Megapixel camera and higher battery capacity ( 5800mAh ).

At last, my laptop now arrived. I had a hard time picking between the Pearl White and the Galaxy Black. Gracie suggested picking the white one due to its neat and elegant color. I also consider the Galaxy Black since it looks tough and dirt free. I got some information that the Pearl White turns into yellowish in the long run so I ended up with the black one in short.

It was pre-installed with Linux. I charged the battery for 4 straight hours to prolong its life. I browsed the Linux OS for a day then got easily bored. Came Saturday, I installed Windows XP Home Edition with SP2.

Here are the steps I made in Installing Win XP Home / Pro:

Things to Prepare:
1. Win XP Home CD
2. External CD / DVD Rom
3. Asus Eee PC Win XP Driver CD

Instructions:
1. Press during bootup screen.
2. Select the USB / DVD Drive then press
3. The Windows XP Installation screen will appear. Press to delete existing partition. Delete all existing partition.
4. Once all existing partition is already deleted, Format the partition using the NTFS file system. This may take time to finish but be patient.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
6. Once the installation has completed, the system will automatically restart.
7. Insert the Windows Support CD that came with your Eee Pc Package. Click InstAll to install all drivers.
8. Good job! You have just changed your OS from Linux to Windows XP Home

Linux boots up faster than Windows XP. I checked mine and it took me 85 seconds to fully boot. That includes my login time upon starting up. As you know, booting stops and will not continue until you type your password. I also have an Avast Antivirus which can also affect boot time due to it’s real time scanning feature. Here are the one’s that I have on my start up tray:

Avast Antivirus
Realtek HD Audio Manager
Wifi Network Icon
Asus Eee Pc Utility
Battery Power Meter

Restarting on the other hand took me 1min and 50 seconds and 30 seconds respectively during shut down.
